Jewish Studies Faculty
The Jewish Studies faculty at Duke represents a broad
coverage of all the major subdisciplines that inform the general
field of Jewish Studies at universities and colleges today.
Historically, Duke has been especially strong in the study of Hebrew Bible
and ancient Judaism due to the presence of a strong Divinity School
faculty. In more recent years the faculty has branched out into more
contemporary fields such as Israel Studies, Holocaust Studies, modern
Hebrew language and literature, modern Jewish history and thought, and
Middle East politics. When taking into account affiliated faculty Duke's coverage is even broader still, and we refer interested students to our
listing of Core and Affiliated faculty for a faithful representation of
Duke 's strengths.
